The new Tombow MONO Drawing Pens are here! I’ve been waiting for Tombow to release a product like this and they definitely don’t disappoint. And they couldn’t have arrived at a better time because they are perfect to use with the book, “Botanical Line Drawing” by Peggy Dean. So, let me show you how these work!
The MONO Drawing Pens come in three tip sizes: 01, 03 and 05. Think of that as the thickness of the line; 01 being thin and 05 being thickest. They are also water-based pigment ink and will dry instantly- without smudging. Isn’t that the best?
Writing with these pens is so smooth, which makes them perfect for illustration work.
Peggy Dean’s new book, “Botanical Line Drawing”, is a fantastic resource for learning how to draw flowers, leaves and cacti. It’s so easy to follow and offers a large amount of different styles of flowers and plants. My floral drawings were never up to par, so this book has helped tremendously!
I always work out my illustrations and lettering in pencil first. My favorite pencil is the Tombow MONO Drawing Pencil 2B
You can create flowers and leaves very easily. Each type of flower is laid out in steps, in which you build upon to complete the design. The gray and black lines really help! What I love about Peggy’s book is that although she gives you directions on how to draw each flower, you then get to use your creativity to create a collage. A little tip: flag your favorite ones so you can easily find them.
With the 3 different tip sizes, you’re able to create thin and thick details so easily. Vary the thin and thick lines throughout your design to add depth and eye-catching details.
One of the best things about these pens is there is no smudging! I used my Tombow MONO eraser (my absolute favorite go-to eraser!) to erase my pencil marks cleanly.
After you’ve used the pens to create the outlines, use your Tombow Dual Brush Pens to add some color.
What do you think about Tombow’s new drawing pens? I’ll be sharing some more tutorials later this week, so stay tuned! What would you like to see me use them for? Comment below!
