How To Use Tombow Brush Pen As Watercolor

If you’ve been following me for a while, it’s no secret that I love my Tombow Dual Brush Pens. They are my favorite pens for lettering- not just because I like they way they write, but because they are so versatile! They are water based which means they blend and can be turned into watercolor so easily. And that’s what today’s post is all about! I’m going to show you how easy it is to create watercolor with your brush pens.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– Tombow Dual Brush Pens – blending palette – water brush (I like the Pentel ones) –

Mixed Media or watercolor paper – paper towel

 

LETTERING WITH WATERCOLOR- THE BASICS

With your brush pen, rub some ink (I’m using no. 725 here) onto the blending palette. 

 

Grab your waterbrush and make a droplet of water onto the ink. Swirl it around until you get your desired consistency. You don’t want it to be too watery.

 

After you have the desired consistency, letter!

 

Clean your waterbrush tip off on a paper towel before switching colors. You’ll want a clean brush tip if you don’t want the colors to blend.

The blending palette cleans off easily with a little water and a paper towel.

 

BLENDING COLORS

Tombow Brush Pens are amazing when it comes to blending. They blend so easily! 

First, grab some brush pens! Here I’m using no. 725, 946, 055, 373, 493. You’ll need your waterbrush, blending palette and paper.

Rub the colors out onto the blending palette. Put a drop of water onto each.

Using your waterbrush blend the colors together on your palette. Then letter.

Have fun finding new color combinations!

 

PAINTING FLORALS

Now that you have some pretty watercolor, what better to do with it then paint florals! Grab your brush pens (no. 725, 946, 055, 195, 493, 373), blending palette and paper.

And then paint! Don’t be afraid to blend the colors!

Again, clean your brush tip on a paper towel and then when your done, wipe your blending palette with a little water and a paper towel.
