Reward yourself with self-love
Last Year, I enrolled in Lauren Hom’s “Passion to Paid” course, which guides you on how to create a passion project. It was well worth it! As I went through the course, my creativity blossomed and the “Be Good To You Club” was born.
The Why
I wanted to create something that combined my love for handlettering/art and spreading kindness. The need for more self-love was something that I had been reading about and decided that would be my main focus. As someone who struggles with anxiety, focusing on the positive is sometimes difficult. Well, honestly, it’s really difficult. I’m a mom of 2, wife, entrepreneur and wear a million different hats. My stress level most days is through the roof. Focusing on myself was always last. 2 years ago I started having symptoms of anxiety attacks. I finally admitted to myself that I needed to see a doctor. I’ve been taking medication since then, and have noticed a huge change. With my anxiety under control, I have found myself able to focus better- especially on myself.
I’ve always been the one who was anxious and self-conscious of the way I looked- especially in photos. I never went out in public without make-up on. Always had to take a million photos until I got the right one. We are born into a society where we are pressured to look, act, dress and be a certain way. We put ourselves down if we don’t measure up to those standards. We can’t let society dictate what beautiful is. What is means to be worthy. What makes a good mom. YOU ARE WORTHY. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. We are all different- and that’s okay! We all deserve more self-love! Putting yourself down affects you. The way you speak to yourself truly matters.
So I’ve set off to change that negativity into positivity! Self-talk is powerful. So powerful it can actually affect your mood and even your physiological state. “Rewarding yourself with self-love” was the idea that just came to me and I knew that had to be my purpose for this passion project. After some research, I realized how valuable the “I am…” statement is. We need to reinforce the positive in our minds. By using these positive statements, we become empowered. We become confident. In turn, we send those vibes out into the world.
As a mom, I am consistently talking to my kids about kindness. Many times, it’s focused on how to be kind to others. We tend to forget that we need to talk about being kind to ourselves too. I find this especially important with my daughter. She’s 9 and at this age, she’s figuring out who she is and feeling those pressures of looking and being a certain way. I want to remind her that she’s beautiful just the way she is. She’s smart. She’s helpful. And she’s kind. Teaching ourselves that positive self-talk can start at any age. And we are the first models for our children. Let’s make it a positive one.
The What
The reward ribbon combined with the “I am…” statement, became a way to visually and vocally celebrate self-love. Seeing, reading and speaking something makes it more meaningful. The Be Good To You Club is a collection of apparel & accessories, celebrating self-love. Don’t be shy to show it off to the world. The collection includes: enamel pins, t-shirts, tote bags, art, keychains and hopefully more!
To get this project off the ground, I’ve created a Kickstarter campaign. Kickstarter is a platform that allows creatives to get their ideas & projects funded. It is an all or nothing funded campaign. I hope to reach my goal in the next 29 days to being the Be Good To You Club to life. There are several different rewards available based on how much you donate. You can also donate (as low as $1!) without a reward.

I now encourage you to make your own reward ribbon! Print out the blank ribbons and add your own “I am…” statement to the middle. Color and cut it out. Hang it up wherever you need to see it and read it. It’s the perfect project for kids too! Remember- positive self-talk is powerful.

I look forward to reading all the positive things about all my amazing readers!
